Lincoln Is Considering Giving Cars Real Names Again

The hype that the Continental concept received might have just been the death knell for the alphabet soup that Lincoln has always enforced.

While speaking to Automotive News, Joe Hinrichs, Ford President of the Americas, said that, “Without divulging the future, we're very excited about the Continental name and the attention it's gotten.”

He went on further agreeing to the fact that many people who are not familiar with the model might end up being confused with the current MK names that its cars have been going with.

According to Hinrichs, Lincoln can be able to differentiate itself by “leveraging its heritage.” While this not that explicit, the talk might just be an indication of what we are to expect with regards to the Lincoln completely overhauling its brand naming scheme.

The new Lincoln, Continental, is set to arrive in the market come next year and it will act as a replacement for the MKS as Lincoln works on making a major push into China. It is believed that the designers of the Continental had been given the model name of the car so as inspire tem when designing the car. Lincoln is currently going through what some are calling the best days in their times, the company so the health of its brand improving, be it slow, ever since Alan Murray, Ford CEO was ready to kill the brand completely.

Last year saw a new boss being appointed to the helm and there were reports which have indicated that a modular platform is currently in the works.
